Happy new year everybody!
There's a lot of talk about what the new year will hold. My own news feed is full of tips on making the most of my life, bettering my health and being motivated.
As you know, I'm an advocate of setting goals and making written plans to achieve them. I typically spend half a day in January to review the year just gone, and set goals for the year ahead. For example, one of my primary motivators is to spend more time with my wife and 2 yr old daughter, so each year I count my number of "holiday days" - the number of week days I didn't work, and the number of days I was actively on holiday somewhere. In 2017 I had 25 holiday days, including a period where I had a day off each week for 6 weeks to spend with my daughter.
Sometimes good things happen because circumstances just push us in a certain direction. But by writing down goals, writing a plan to achieve them, and reviewing progress regularly, you can start to influence your own future in the direction you want.
My dream is to eventually work 4 days each week for 9 months of the year, and be on holiday for 3 months of the year. So that's what I'm working towards every day. And as my short term goal, I hope this coming year has 40 holiday days.
If you want to try setting some written goals yourself, just have a go. Just sit in a quiet space and start writing what you want your future to look like. I have many tips on methodology which I'll share with you over time, but goal setting always involves sitting and writing.
